widows and orphans. The two sides of the same coin of suffering
In early April each year, is held Orphan's Day. It is a good opportunity to show the suffering of orphans in the Gaza Strip and to make a call to your attention.
According to the specialized authorities, there are no official statistics or precise and illustrative number of orphans in the Gaza Strip, but it is estimated that the number of orphans under the age of sixteen years is 16,159 distributed in five provinces. The reports of the authorities recorded the number of orphans as a result of the recent war in the Gaza Strip, until 1508. A 2008 study by Dr. Abd Al Aziz Thabet confirmed that orphans are suffering psychological problems and social as well as loss of self-confidence as a result of the loss of loved ones,
models and friends. The study indicated that 83.5% of orphans are very nervous when faced with obstacles in their practical life, the study also noted that 74.5% of orphans are horrified, they panic and are nervous.
events in the Middle East in general and the Gaza Strip in particular can increase the number of orphans, which require double the capacity of humanitarian agencies to provide needed care for orphans.
However, fifteen international institutions to support orphans in the Gaza Strip, and they spend about a hundred million dollars each year in this area are limited in their efforts to supply the needs of orphans and their involvement in comprehensive care for them. Therefore, it requires an intensive effort to find practical solutions and enhance the role of these institutions in joint programs for the benefit of comprehensive care for orphans.
programs for orphans institutions focused on the context of immediate assistance or material goods of food packages, where ensure distribution of the assets which range U.S. $ 45-55 in a period of 3-4 months, which means that these programs show that each orphan needs U.S. $ 0.5 every day and this means that these children are living below the poverty line and can not get their daily needs. Moreover, these programs rely on funding from donors and sponsors that can be interrupted due to difficulties in the process of transferring funds from abroad.
addition, there is a database of institutions caring for orphans which often means the duplication in the provision of goods some orphans and the denial of such goods to others.
Moreover, institutions caring for orphans in the Gaza Strip have a gap in programs that are related to the development of skills for orphans and psychosocial support programs, education tutorial, health care, developing skills in communication, leadership programs to reconstruct, in addition to the economic empowerment of the poor orphan families.
The number of widows in Gaza is increasing every day, reaching the proportion of 6.3% of all Palestinian women (aged 15). Widows living under the stress of the psychological, social and economical especially if they are mothers, which doubles their suffering and responsibilities and left them in serious need of support and empowerment, not only helps welfare. Moreover, the Gaza Strip lacks support programs whether psychological or physical for widows especially with increasing number and increasing the number of victims.
humanitarian institutions highlight the importance of the following:
1. Establish a bank draft data of orphans and widows, where the objective of the project is to inventory and identify the needs of these groups in order to start building a corrective strategies to facilitate access.
2. Build new houses for private care for orphans and widows who lost their homes, spread over five provinces, as well as restoring and rehabilitating the existing home care.
3. Establish a fund for poor orphans to invest in development projects with a long-term impact.
4. Building trades education centers for orphans where they work for the training of over fifteen years have not been interested in education and need to learn a trade as a source of income.
5. A project to build a private school for orphans where the project's goal is to create a comprehensive learning environment that provides comprehensive educational services in accordance with current international standards for orphans for free, especially children who have lost their breadwinner family and for all educational stages
6. Initiate economic empowerment projects for widows headed households, either through training or small loans.
7. Start leadership training projects, with the objectives of creating a group of leaders
within the category of orphans through a program of integrated training in leadership skills such as continuity, rhetoric, communication with others, including

They also made several air raids on land farm in the town of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza Strip. So, come the need to train local staff in disaster management and crisis management to take a leadership role to help the population of the Gaza Strip.
movements at border crossing
Rafah border crossing
allowed only 300 passengers per day to be out of the Gaza Strip to Egypt.
Some of those who want to leave the hard life in the Gaza Strip are forced to return, and return every day between 35-50 people.
Despite repeated promises to solve the problem of Palestinians around the world who wish to return to the Gaza Strip, have been granted only a limited number of visas. The request for these people is continuing to meet its humanitarian crisis and the money spent.
Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah crossing for the movement of Palestinians on Tuesday February 22, 2011 and continues open until the publication of this report. Allow the passage of patients with permit treatment abroad, people who have visas, students who have a certificate of registration by universities and foreign passport holders to pass through the Rafah crossing.
border crossings connecting Gaza with Israel
Israeli occupation authorities continue to impose a total ban on exports of industrial products, something that prevents any real chance to restart the establishment of an economy, but recently re-enable strawberries, flowers, peppers and tomatoes. During the period covered by this report can export 17 trucks of flowers and tomatoes 4 vans. This means that 80% of the population in Gaza will remain dependent on humanitarian aid supplied as a result the international community.
Israeli occupation authorities continue to impose a ban on the entry of major assets such as building materials needed for reconstruction or raw materials for production.
According to available information, 2827 trucks have entered during the period covered by this report, distributed in: 2262 private trucks, 398 trucks aid, 161 trucks of cooking gas and 1 gas, 1 diesel benzene and 5.
They allowed the entry of 99 cars during the period covered by the report.
Erez border crossing
occupation forces continue to close the border and prevent the Gazans to leave and return, except a small group of people with a very strict procedure and many hours of expected. During the period covered by the report, 9040 passed through Erez, 1663 were foreigners, 516 Arabs from 48, while the number of citizens was in 6861 that passed through the passage for several reasons:
Karni border crossing
Israeli occupation authorities closed Karni in the middle of last month and moved their work to the passage of Karm Abu Salem. During this period allowed the entry of 417 trucks of wheat and fodder, two gravel trucks (a building materials) to international institutions, also 67 trucks entered the construction materials for the benefit of international institutions while only 34 were allowed trucks of construction materials for the benefit of the private sector.
Sufa border crossing
Israeli authorities opened the Sufa crossing had been closed for years on an exceptional basis, on 9 March and since then have allowed the entry of 423 trucks of construction materials for the benefit of international institutions.
water and energy resources During the period covered by this report, the situation of energy resources in the Gaza Strip has not changed since the central Gaza electricity continues to depend on diesel Egyptian preferably used cars, and that the plant has recently begun to use. Continued supply shortages electricity by more than 30% of the strip means the continued suffering of civilians who have cut more than 4-6 hours each day and is expected to increase in summer. Getting water is a daily challenge for the people of Gaza, 10% of Gazans who live in residential areas, including Gaza, Rafah and Jabaliya receives water once every four days (6-8 hours), while 80 % receive water once every three days (6-8 hours), while the remaining 10% is received once a day (6-8 hours)
worth mentioning that with increasing temperature and the approach of summer, it is expected that the water access problem worse due to increased rates of daily water use. A group of specialists in the field of water and several academic environment and confirmed on the occasion of World Water Day that the groundwater reserves in Gaza suffer shortages for decades, and noted that the annual water shortage in 2011 was almost 80 million cubic meters as a result of natural increase in population of Gaza and its sole dependence on the one deposit on the coast to accommodate the daily needs, besides the low rainfall in recent years. Experts expect the water deficit may exceed 100 million cubic meters in the coming years, and it is expected that groundwater I ended up on the coast in the coming years.
Notably, the presence of factors and variables of climate and nature that occurs worldwide and in the Gaza Strip in particular had a negative impact on groundwater reserves, in addition to the Israeli occupation is one of the main reasons that led to an outbreak of severe water crisis in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli occupation intentionally seized the groundwater through the creation of water wells along the eastern border Strip as well to divert the trail of Wadi Gaza into its territory, which led to the loss of about 20 to 30,000,000 cubic meters of surface water that feeds the groundwater reservoir in Gaza. Donor countries also stopped support for the implementation of strategic projects in the water and sanitation sector as a result of Israel's siege of Gaza that has a negative impact on the type i the amount of water in the groundwater reserves that found on the Strip. Moreover, the water crisis is stifling also in the proportion of individual water in the Gaza Strip which is 80 liters per day, equivalent to half the proportion of drinking water recommended by WHO.
